Meet me in my new studio

City of Women opens March 4th

Recently I was intrigued by an opportunity to interview and paint an influential woman who has made a difference in my community. Meet Ruth Ann Butler. Ruth Ann has been a friend of mine for several years, so it was no surprise when the civil rights pioneer and leader in preserving African American heritage was the first person who came to my mind for this project.

Ruth Ann Butler sharing stories with me from her present and past

Recently, I got to spend a Sunday afternoon with Ruth Ann while she reflected on many challenges and triumphs in her life. I set out to capture a glimpse of her incredible journey through a portrait that was selected to hang in the juried exhibition, City of Women, which opens at Greenville Center for Creative Arts on March 4th and runs through April 28th. Come see the painting and meet my friend, Ruth Ann at the opening reception!

Meet Me in My New Studio

New Year, New Studio! I recently moved into one of the incredible, newly renovated spaces downstairs at GCCA, just off the main gallery. Moving from my upstairs studio, where I had been for almost 4 years, offered me time to reflect on all the amazing memories that were created during my time there. I had the pleasure of meeting many great people, making connections and being inspired in so many ways. Like I say, Onward and Upward…I am so excited for the next chapter in my new space. If you haven’t stopped by to check it out yet, I hope to see you soon!

New Studio, New Work

New Studio = New Work! Here is one of the first pieces created in the new studio, Afternoon Flight. A wedge of geese flying in the afternoon light. Not sure what it is about these birds but I love watching them take off, land and fly in their V formation. Each one taking their turn to share the responsibility taking the lead guiding each other through the air. So incredibly cool! I hope you will check out this piece and several other new creations hanging in my new studio!
